In this case, we focus on Volta Ciclista a Catalunya a.k.a. Grimpeurs Cup as we can see through the profile stages.

First of all, we need to know the weather forecast. If its difficult to predict it for a one day races imagine for a weekly race. Taking the finish stages places as references:

Fisrt stage of the Volta and the most difficult to predict. 25km to finish riders meet Alt de Sant Grau ( 8.1km - 4 % ) Deppending with the CG contenders atitude whole knows how hard and decisives will be next 2 stages we contemplate 3 posibles scenarios:

A: Sprinters day
B: BreakWay day
C: GC contenders day

Second stage will be the fisrt hard day in the office. The bunch against Valter 2000. The Roof of this 103rd edition. Up to 2150 meters altitude with 11.2kms - 7.6%
A GC contenders day

Another hard day in the office and welcome to the Queen Stage of Volta. For sure, this day is for a GC contenders and pure grimpeurs. Riders will fight in a 3 chained big climbs. Last one, finish uphill at Port Aine , under 2000 meters altitude and 18.4 kms - 6.7%.

After the big efforts done before, this stage is quite flat last 70 kms.
It sounds good for the few sprinters in the bunch.

Another day to recovery forces and the stage is suitable for a breakway or strong sprinters

Hard and beautifull stage. Rare to find a flat kilometers sector through the 5th categorized climbs.
If the battles at Stages 2 and 3 are not enough, GC contenders will fight again to let clear the diferences between them.
If the race is done after stage 3, why not a chance for a strong and qualified breakway?

Traditional Volta ending edition after edition. 6 laps at Montjuic circuit.
GC contenders day or a late BW by puncheurs.

The starlist of 103rd Volta Ciclista a Catalunya would be considered for any of the Big3. Teams are warming up their grimpeurs and let them the chances to improve tactics and strategies.
