Race analysis, favourites, and predictions for Tirreno-Adriatico 2025

Starting next Monday, Tirreno-Adriatico, Italy's most important one-week race, will take place. This event, known as "the race of the two seas" because it starts on the Tyrrhenian Sea coast and finishes on the shores of the Adriatic, runs simultaneously with Paris-Nice, splitting the peloton between the two events. Both races are prestigious in their own right, but many cyclists also use them as preparation for the spring classics and Grand Tours.

Route

As in recent editions, the race begins with a short 11,5 km time trial. The second and final stages offer the most obvious opportunities for sprinters, while the general classification will likely be decided in the third and sixth stages, which feature the toughest climbs. The fourth and fifth stages have intermediate routes that could favor breakaways or even set up a sprint finish for puncheurs.

Favorites

Some of the main contenders for the overall classification include Adam Yates (1200), Juan Ayuso (1000), Mikel Landa (1000), Giulio Ciccone (1000), Richard Carapaz (800), Jai Hindley (800), Thomas Pidcock (800), Pello Bilbao (800), Simon Yates (800), David Gaudu (800), and Wout Poels (600).

For the opening time trial, Filippo Ganna (800) is the man to beat, while for sprint finishes, favorites include Jonathan Milan (1000), Olav Kooij (800), Dylan Groenewegen (800), Biniam Girmay (1000), Mathieu Van Der Poel (800), Pascal Ackermann (600), and Sam Bennett (600).
