Race analysis, favourites, and predictions for Tre Valli Varesine Women's Race 2025

Il Lombardia is the only one of the five cycling Monuments held in autumn, and for many riders, it marks the end of the season. Before that, however, several Italian classics serve as a warm-up leading into the big showdown on Saturday, October 11. These are Coppa Bernocchi – GP Banco BPM, Tre Valli Varesine, and Gran Piemonte—three historic races joined by the Tre Valli Varesine Women’s Race, the final women’s UCI ProSeries event, after which the 10 annual trophies of the category will be awarded in Cycling Fantasy.

Coppa Bernocchi – GP Banco BPM

The week kicks off with the Coppa Bernocchi, which features a course identical to previous editions. Much of the race unfolds on a 16.5 km local circuit tackled eight times, including the climb of the Piccolo Stelvio (1.5 km at 7.2%). The final ascent is crested 33 km from the finish.

The start list includes top climbers such as Primož Roglič (1200), Richard Carapaz (1000), Giulio Ciccone (800), Egan Bernal (800), Giulio Pellizzari (600), and Jai Hindley (600), but in recent years the race has favored riders with a strong finishing kick. Names like Alex Aranburu (800), Mathew Brennan (600), Dorian Godon (600), Christian Scaroni (400), and Julian Alaphilippe (600) are among the contenders for victory.

Tre Valli Varesine

Tuesday’s race takes place almost entirely on a circuit better suited to climbers, featuring the ascents of Salita dei Ronchi (1.9 km at 5.3%) and Montello (2 km at 5.1%). The last two laps add a third climb, Barasso (0.9 km at 7.9%), along with a 300-meter ramp at 10%. The race covers a total of 198 km with 3,300 meters of elevation gain, finishing uphill.

Favorites include Tadej Pogačar (1200), Primož Roglič (1200), Isaac Del Toro (1000), Richard Carapaz (1000), Giulio Ciccone (800), Jay Vine (800), Mikel Landa (800), Lorenzo Fortunato (800), Giulio Pellizzari (600), and Jai Hindley (600).

Tre Valli Varesine Women’s Race

The women’s edition covers 136 km with 1,900 meters of elevation gain and also finishes uphill.

The list of entrants for the race is still at a very early stage, but it already features world stars such as Elisa Longo Borghini (1200), Demi Vollering (1200), and Kimberley Le Court (1000).

Gran Piemonte

Of all these races, Gran Piemonte is the one that changes its route the most from year to year. This edition totals 179 km and 2,700 meters of climbing, ending with two laps of a circuit that includes the ascent to Castelletto d’Erro (6.1 km at 5.2%).

Due to its proximity to Saturday’s big race, the main contenders for Il Lombardia usually skip this one. Still, the provisional start list features Isaac Del Toro (1000), Alex Aranburu (800), Filippo Ganna (600), Tobias Halland Johannessen (600), Orluis Aular (600), Michael Matthews (400), Pavel Sivakov (400), and Neilson Powless (400).
