Polti was an Italian team that raced between 1983 and 2000, although the Polti steam cleaning company did not become the team's main sponsor until 1994. In 1999, Polti brought in Richard Virenque, who had been expelled from the Tour de France the year before for his involvement in the famous doping case involving the Festina team. Defending the colors of Polti, Virenque would get his fifth polka-dot jersey as the best climber of the Tour. The same year, Ivan Gotti won his second Giro d'Italia.
