As flat as it gets
Looking at the profile of the 2020 Driedaagse Brugge-De Panne, the absolute flatness of the event is immediately striking. Historically, the Driedagse was a three-day test, which with the UCI rescheduling moved to a one-day race last year. In the 2019 edition, the two races were resolved by sprint, both the men's and women's events. Similar outcomes are expected this year, as even the testimonial cobbled sectors that rose far from home have been removed. The main incentive will once again be the wind, as the route includes many kilometers exposed to the Atlantic winds.
Considering the profile then, it is not surprising to find a starting list loaded with sprinters. In the men's event we find Caleb Ewan (1200), Matteo Trentin (1000), Alexander Kristoff (600), Mads Pedersen (400), John Degenkolb (600), Mike Teunissen (600), Florian Sénéchal (400), Mark Cavendish (200), Phil Bauhauss (600), Maximilian Walscheid (600), Danny Van Poppel (600), Niccolo Bonifazio (400), Nacer Bouhanni (400), Jean-Pierre Drucker (400) and Tim Merlier (200), among others.
Current champion Kristen Wild (1000) will be on the start list of the women's event, and with her we also find the main sprinters of the peloton. Marta Bastainelli (1000), Lorena Wiebes (1200), Elisabeth Banks (600), Lotte Kopecky (800), Jolien d'Hoore (800) or Elisa Balsamo (800) will presumably be the main alternatives to victory.
