A classic for climbers in Liguria

The first Italian .Pro category race of 2022 arrives next Wednesday in the Liguria region. This is the Trofeo Laigueglia, which was held for the first time in 1964 and which presents an ideal route for climbers. The record of the race tells us about a classic dominated mostly by Italian riders but where great champions such as Eddy Merckx (1973 and 1974), Lance Armstrong (1993) or Johan Museeuw (1995) have also shone.

Route

The route includes 3,000 meters of climbing, so the candidates for victory must necessarily be good climbers. The final circuit of 11 kilometers, which the riders will have to do 4 laps, includes the climb to Colla Micheri (2 km at 8.2%).

Favorites

Trek - Segafredo presents a very strong line-up that includes the last two winners of the race, Bauke Mollema (600) (2021) and Giulio Ciccone (400) (2020), while Ineos Grenadiers also have several cards to play with Richard Carapaz (1000), Richie Porte (800), and Tao Geoghegan Hart (600). Other favorites are Vincenzo Nibali (600), David Gaudu (1000), Alessandro Covi (400), Gianni Moscon (400) and Andrea Vendrame (600), although we will have to keep an eye on the startlist, since there are still many teams to confirm their line-ups.
