Brussels celebrates its classic
Although not among the most famous Belgian classics, the Brussels Cycling Classic was first contested in 1893, and is one of the oldest races still held today. It is a race that includes several cobbled sections and climbs, but despite this, in Cycling Fantasy it will not count for the cobblestones combined classification, since it is part of the ProSeries, and only the WorldTour races are included in the combined classification.
Route
The race features a 205 km route with an important novelty, since this edition includes a double climb to the Kapelmuur of Geraardsbergen (1.1 km at 8%), one of the great temples of world cycling. In recent years, the race has been resolved with a sprint on the streets of Brussels, but perhaps this year a different outcome may be reached, since apart from the double ascent to the Muur, cyclists will also have to overcome twice the Bosberg (1km at 5.8%). On the other hand, it is also true that the last 50 kilometers without great difficulties favor a sprint outcome.
Favorites
Tim Merlier (600) will try to revalidate last year's victory and starts as a great favorite. Other applicants are Danny van Poppel (600), Amaury Capiot (600) or Andrea Pasqualon (400), although it is difficult to make predictions, since the startlist is still in very early stages and there are many teams yet to present their lineups.
Who has confirmed his presence is Remco Evenepoel (1200), and the young Belgian talent is a firm candidate to attempt victory with a distant attack.
