Burgos to prepare La Vuelta

The start of La Vuelta a España 2021 will take place in Burgos on August 14, exactly one week after the end of Vuelta a Burgos. This geographical and temporal proximity have caused many teams to use this ProSeries race as the natural preparation for the Spanish grand tour, forming a high level starting list.

Route

Five stages make up the race. The first one runs through a flat route throughout the day, but the two climbs to Burgos Castle (0.9 km at 5.4%) will decide the first to wear the leader's jersey, since the finish line is at the top of the second climb. The second and fourth stages do not include great difficulties and seem destined for the sprint, while stages 3 and 5 will be decisive for the general classification. The third contains the climb to Picón Blanco (8.1 km at 9.1%) and the fifth ends at the top of Lagunas de Neila (11.9 km at 6.3%), so the winner of the race will have to be a climber.

Favorites

Giro d’Italia’s winner Egan Bernal (1200) starts as the main favorite, and his rivals will presumably be men such as Alexandr Vlasov (1000), Simon Yates (800), Hugh John Carthy (800), Damiano Caruso (600) or Mikel Landa (800). However, we will have to pay attention to the startlist, since there are still many teams to confirm their rosters.
