Climbers and puncheurs meet in Burgos

In recent years, it has become customary that the Vuelta a Burgos presents a 5-stage route dominated by mountains and hilltop finishes, making up an ideal race for climbers and riders with punch. In addition, with the Vuelta Ciclista a España approaching, some cyclists will use the race to add racing kilometers on their legs before the last Grand Tour of the year.

Route

As we were saying, the legs of the puncheurs will be tested from day one, which presents the finish line at Burgos Castle (0.9 km at 5.3%). The second stage is on paper the easiest, and the best opportunity for the few fast men present on the start list, although 6 km from the finish line there is a small elevation of 1.6 km at 5% where there may be attacks. The mountains arrive in the third stage, with the ascent to Picón Blanco (7.9 km at 9.2%), while the fourth presents a new opportunity for puncheurs, with a final ramp of 2.1 km at 4.9 % that will take cyclists to the ancient Roman city of Clunia. The fifth and last stage, with the traditional finish at the top of Lagunas de Neila (12 km at 6.2%), will undoubtedly be decisive for the final GC.
