Crowdfunding saves the Thüringen Ladies Tour

The increase in the costs of organizing a race derived from complying with the COVID protocols was about to cause the suspension of the 2021 edition of the Internationale LOTTO Thüringen Ladies Tour. However, the organization did not give up and launched a crowdfunding campaign, to which fans from all over the world responded: 35,000 euros were needed and more than 47,000 euros were raised.

The Thüringen Ladies Tour is one of the most historic races on the women's calendar, since it has been held since 1988, first as an amateur event and since 2004 as a professional race. The event takes place in the German Bundesland of Thuringia, and will be the first women's ProSeries stage race of the year.

Route

Although the 6 stages are categorized as flat according to the profiles, only one of them has less than 1000 meters of positive slope. The short and explosive climbs will be decisive, as the climb to Gahma on stage 3 will surely be. In this edition, the absence of a time trial stands out, so the general classification will be even more open than in previous years.

Favorites

The chance of several stages ending in sprints has attracted some of the best sprinters in the world, such as Lorena Wiebes (1200), Emma Cecile Norsgaard (600), Lotte Kopecky (800), or Jolien D’Hoore (800). Unfortunately, and as is often the case in women's cycling today, there are still many women missing on the startlist with just four days to go until the start of the race. Among those who have already confirmed their presence, Liane Lippert (800), Lisa Klein (800), Marta Cavalli (800) or Amy Pieters (1000) are some of the candidates for the general classification.
