Hungary's second year in the ProSeries
The Tour de Hongrie joined the UCI ProSeries last year, and in 2024, it repeats as a second-tier event in world cycling. As in the previous edition, the race will again consist of five stages, with a varied route offering opportunities for different types of cyclists.
Route
As mentioned, the race consists of 5 stages. The first two seem ideal for sprinters, while on the third day comes the only mountain stage, which, with the finish at Gyongos-Kekesteto (12.1 km at 5.6%), will undoubtedly be decisive for the general classification. Finally, the penultimate stage features a finish on a short climb ideal for punchers, while the last one is a medium mountain stage that will presumably be contested by the general classification contenders.
Favorites
The list of favorites for the general classification includes cyclists such as Yannis Voisard (200), Roger Adrià (200), Joan Bou (200), Diego Ulissi (400), Sylvain Moniquet (200), Ben Zwiehoff (200), Damien Howson (200), Thibau Nys (200), Ethan Hayter (800), or last year's winner, Marc Hirschi (600).
For the sprints, Dylan Groenewegen (800), Jordi Meeus (600), Mark Cavendish (600), Arvid De Klein (600), Matteo Moschetti (200), Elia Viviani (400), Jon Aberasturi (200), Emils Liepins (200), Gleb Syritsa (200), or Thibau Nys (200) and Ethan Hayter (800) themselves are fast men. A separate mention deserves the three-time world champion, Peter Sagan (400), who returns to competition after his double heart surgery. Now, Sagan will lead the Slovak team Pierre Baguette Cycling as preparation for the 2024 Paris Olympics, where he intends to participate in the cross-country discipline.
