London and Its Cycling Festival

The Ford RideLondon Classique was born in 2013 as a women’s exhibition criterium linked to the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey Classic, a men’s race that had begun two years earlier as a preparatory event for the 2012 London Olympics.

After three years as a criterium, the women’s race managed to enter the UCI calendar directly as part of the Women’s WorldTour, a status it has maintained since 2016. However, in 2022, the event transitioned from a one-day race to a stage race. Interestingly, the men’s race that originally inspired the women’s event is no longer held, and now the women’s race is the main event of the weekend in London. During these days, the streets of the British capital also host amateur races and a massive cycling parade.

Route

This year, the event consists of three flat stages, providing one of the few opportunities during the season for sprinters to win a stage race.
