Lots of mountains before the Tour
The Tour de Suisse is one of the most used races to prepare the Tour de France. Due to its location on the calendar and the great mountain load that the route includes, many riders use it to add kilometers to their legs 15 days before the start of the most important race in the world. However, as happened last year, the two great candidates for victory in the Tour, Tadej Pogačar (1200) and Primož Roglič (1200), will not be in the Swiss race, so there is an open range of candidates.
Route
The route of this edition of the Tour de Suisse is made up of 8 stages, of which the first 5 present medium-mountain profiles. The two high-mountain alpine stages present in this edition of the race follow, and the race closes with a 25-kilometre individual time trial. Thus, we are facing a race that does not present opportunities for sprinters.
Favorites
Remco Evenepoel (1200), Alexandr Vlasov (1200), Adam Yates (1000), Mikel Landa (800), Michael Woods (800), Daniel Felipe Martinez Poveda (800), Sergio Higuita (800), Geraint Thomas (800), Jakob Fuglsang (600), Maximilian Schachmann (600), Alexey Lutsenko (600), Tibaut Pinot (400), Domenico Pozzovivo (400), Sepp Kuss (600) and Jay Vine (400) are some of the riders who can look for the general classification.
Fast riders like Alexander Kristoff (800), Peter Sagan (800), Fernando Gaviria (800) and Michael Matthews (800) are going to try to look for a stage victory in the first days, although all the stages exceed 2000 meters of positive slope and they include short climbs near the finish line, so they may be too hard for them. For the individual time trial on the final day, the main favorites are specialists against the clock such as Remco Evenepoel (1200), Stefan Küng (800), Rohan Dennis (400), Kasper Asgreen (600) and Geraint Thomas (600).
