May 1st is celebrated with cycling

May 1st is International Workers’ Day, and for 60 years, Eschborn-Frankfurt, the most important cycling event in Germany, has been held on this date. This race and the ADAC Cyclassics are the only two men's WorldTour races held in the country, and among them, the Frankfurt race is clearly the most historic and prestigious. Created in 1962 by the Henninger beer brand, the race has been part of the UCI WorldTour since 2017.

Route

This year’s route is identical to the last two editions, in which puncheurs and classics specialists managed to split the group and prevent sprinters from contesting the finish. The race starts in Eschborn, on the outskirts of Frankfurt, and heads into the Taunus mountain range, where riders must overcome several climbs before returning to Frankfurt for the final circuit.

In total, 198 km and 3,200 meters of accumulated elevation gain will test the sprinters, who will find it harder to survive than in editions prior to 2023.

Favorites

Jasper Philipsen (1200), Pascal Ackermann (600), Tobias Lund Andresen (400), and Max Kanter (400) are the main candidates for a bunch sprint, while Maxim Van Gils (600), Michael Matthews (600), Thibau Nys (600), Alex Aranburu (800), Nils Eekhoff (200), and Iván García Cortina (400) would prefer a selective sprint. Marc Hirschi (800), Neilson Powless (600), Ben Healy (600), Stephen Williams (600) and Tobias Halland Johannessen (600) will need to aim for an even smaller group sprint or a solo finish to win.
