Navarra honors Indurain

The Trofeo Gobierno de Navarra has been held since 1951, although its name has changed over the years. In 1999, the organization of the race, the Club Ciclista Estella, decided to pay tribute to the greatest Navarrese cyclist of all time, the five-time winner of the Tour de France Miguel Indurain, and finally the name of Gran Premio Miguel Indurain has been consolidated. In addition, in 2021 the race has risen in category and becomes part of the ProSeries.

Route

The race presents a profile with no large mountains but without a flat meter, making it ideal for specialists in hilly classics, as it includes up to 16 climbs of different lengths and gradients.

Favorites

Traditionally, the event has been dominated by Spanish riders, but this year being a .Pro category race, the startlist includes up to 10 WorldTour teams. Due to its situation on the calendar, the event presents a mix of cyclists who have just participated in the Volta a Catalunya with others who will be in the Itzulia Basque Country starting next Monday.

The winner of the Volta Adam Yates (1000) starts as the main favorite, as he was in very good shape in Catalonia and also arrives with a very strong team including Richard Carapaz (1000), Tao Geoghegan Hart (800), Laurens de Plus (400) and Edward Dunbar (400).

The course is also well suited to riders such as the eternal Alejandro Valverde (1000), Alexey Lutsenko (600), Ion Izagirre (800), Pello Bilbao (600), Diego Ulissi (1000), Rui Costa (600), Bauke Mollema (600 ), Guillaume Martin (600), Jesus Herrada (400), Pierre Latour (400) or Rafal Majka (800).
