Pogačar races at home before the Tour

The 2020 Tour de France winner, Slovenian Tadej Pogačar (1200), ruled out riding either of the two traditional preparatory races for the Tour (Critérium du Dauphiné and Tour de Suisse) to headline the Tour of Slovenia. It is the most important race in his country, but without WorldTour status, there are few WorldTeam teams, and it seems that only Alexander Vlasov (800) can challenge Pogačar for the general classification.

Route

Stages 1 and 5 look designed to sprint arrivals, while stages 2 and 3 travel through mid-mountain terrain and it is likely that the GC contenders will make their first moves. Of the 5 stages that make up the route, only the fourth is categorized as high mountain, although it does not include big climbs.

Favorites

As we were saying, Tadej Pogačar (1200) and Alexander Vlasov (800) are the two main favorites for the general classification, and any result that does not include both on them in the podium would be a surprise.

UAE Team Emirates is undoubtedly the strongest team in the race, as alongside Pogačar, the line-up includes Matteo Trentin (800) to look for the break and even for fast arrivals, and Rafal Majka (800) and Diego Ulissi (1000), who can also do well in the overall standings. Other riders with aspirations to top positions can be Matej Mohoric (400) and Gorka Izagirre (400).

For sprint arrivals, Matteo Trentin (800), Ion Aberasturi (400), Phil Bauhaus (400), Dion Smith (400) or Stanislaw Anilkowski (200) are some of the fastest men on paper.
