San Juan premieres the ProSeries 2023
After two years of cancellation due to COVID-19, the Vuelta a San Juan Internacional is back to open the UCI ProSeries for the 2023 season. The winner of the 2020 edition of the race, Remco Evenepoel (1200), returns to San Juan three years later fully consolidated as one of the great stars of our sport, and will be wearing the world champion’s rainbow jersey for the first time.
It should be noted that the Vuelta a San Juan Internacional will be the only second division race to take place in South America in 2023.
The route
The race is made up of 7 stages, with a predominance of routes for sprinters, as 6 are considered flat by the organization and can be resolved in a sprint, although stages 2, 3 and 4 can bring some surprises. The decisive stage of the race will undoubtedly be the fifth, since it presents the arrival at Alto del Colorado (12.7 km at 4.8%), the best place to create time differences in the general classification.
Favorites
Remco Evenepoel (1200) starts as the great favorite for another victory in San Juan. Sergio Higuita (800), Miguel Ángel López (800), Daniel Felipe Martínez (800), Jan Hirt (400), Quinn Simmons (400) or Einer Rubio (200) are other GC contenders.
For the fast stages, Fabio Jakobsen (800), Sam Bennett (800), Fernando Gaviria (600), Giacomo Nizzolo (600), Peter Sagan (1000), Elia Viviani (600), Jon Aberasturi (400), Sam Welsford (200) and Gleb Syritsa (200) make up a nice list of sprinters.
