Sprinters work on May 1st

May 1st is a holiday throughout Europe (and much of the rest of the world) as it celebrates International Workers' Day. However, in the German city of Frankfurt, May 1st also means Eschborn-Frankfurt, one of the country's most prestigious races and which has been held in the city on this very day since 1962. The race is part of the UCI WorldTour and is one of the top races for sprinters throughout the year.

Route

As the name suggests, the race starts in the town of Eschborn on the outskirts of Frankfurt and heads into the Taunus mountain range, where cyclists must tackle a series of climbs before returning to Frankfurt for the final circuit. Although the race includes almost 3000 meters of positive elevation gain, history tells us that this is a race for sprinters: in recent years Sam Bennet (800) (2022), Jasper Philipsen (1200) (2021), Pascal Ackermann (600) (2019), and Alexander Kristoff (800) (2014, 2016, 2017, 2018) have won the race.

Favorites

As we were saying, the favorites have to be looked for among fast men. Jasper Philipsen (1200), Alexander Kristoff (800), Sam Bennet (800), Pascal Ackermann (600), Hugo Hofstetter (600), Maximilian Walscheid (400), Arnaud De Lie (200), John Degenkolb (200), and Arne Marit (200) are some of the main favorites that we can find in the provisional start list.
