Strade Bianche restarts season

It has been four and a half months since coronavirus forced to suspend the season and, although many thought that we would not see races again until 2021, everything seems to indicate that finally there will be cycling in 2020. Great news!

If nothing prevents it, the first date will be in Tuscany, where Strade Bianche will be held on August 1, both the men's and women's events. Strade bianche means “white roads” in Italian, and the name is fully justified, as the unpaved sections are the main characteristic of this classic. With only 13 editions contested, Strade Bianche has managed to become a place of preference in the hearts of fans and riders, to the point that some begin to claim it as the sixth monument.

As far as favorites are concerned, puncheur / flandrien profile riders tend to stand out. Those with experience in cyclocross start with a certain advantage, since dirt roads are their ideal habitat. Julian Alaphilippe (1200) Jakob Fuglsang (1200), Michael Kwiatkowski (1200), Wout van Aert (800), Tiesj Benoot (800) or Zdenek Stybar (800) start as top favorites. For his part, cyclocross genius Mathieu van der Poel (400) will make his debut aspiring to everything.

In the women's event, Dutch Annemiek van Vleuten (1200) starts as the main favorite (as in every race she disputes), in a list in which her compatriots Marianne Vos (1200), Anna van der Breggen (1200) and Chantal Blaak (1200) stand out. Polish Katarzyna Niewiadoma (1200), Italian Marta Bastianelli (1200) and South African Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio (1200), also start with serious options, among others.
