The 40th Edition of the Deutschland Tour

The Lidl Deutschland Tour traces its origins back to 1911, when the first edition was held. However, throughout its history it has suffered numerous interruptions and long periods without being contested, so the German stage race reaches in 2025 only its 40th edition, 114 years after that inaugural event. It was in 2018 that the race was revived once again, and it has been held uninterruptedly since then.

Route

The race consists of five stages, starting with a 3 km prologue time trial that will determine the first wearer of the blue leader’s jersey. The remaining stages feature flat or rolling profiles, likely to end in sprints of varying selectivity. The most demanding stage is the fourth, with 2,700 meters of elevation gain, and is expected to be decisive for the general classification.

Favorites

Jonathan Milan (1000), Wout Van Aert (1200), Kaden Groves (1000), Mathew Brennan (400), Phil Bauhaus (600), Alexander Kristoff (600), Søren Wærenskjold (600), Danny Van Poppel (600), Emilien Jeannière (400), Jan Christen (400), Axel Laurance (400), Iván Romeo (400) and Laurence Pithie (400) are some of the riders best suited to the course.

The start list also features climbers such as Adam Yates (1000), Florian Lipowitz (800), Brandon McNulty (800) and Ilan Van Wilder (800), although the absence of major mountain passes reduces their chances.
