The Ardennes start in the Netherlands

Amstel Gold Race takes place entirely on Dutch soil, far from the Ardennes and the Walloon region of Belgium. Still, due to its location on the calendar and the undulating profile through which it runs, it is considered the first of the three races that make up the Ardennes triptych, along with Flèche Wallonne and Liège-Bastogne-Liège.

If we go back a bit, the first edition of the Amstel Gold Race was held in 1966 and since then it has been sponsored continuously by the Dutch brewery Amstel. It is the most important race in the Netherlands, and a big event in the country.

Route

For this edition of the beer race, the route consists of the multiplicity of passes on the climbs of Bemelergerg, Geuhelmmerberg and Cauberg, until adding the 3027 meters of positive slope that make up the men's race and the 1516 that compose the women's.
