The Double Annual Visit to Canada

Although cycling is an eminently European sport and the most important races take place in Europe, several events from other continents have managed to establish themselves in the UCI WorldTour. Such is the case of the Canadian races, the Grand Prix Cycliste de Québec and the Grand Prix Cycliste de Montréal, which this year celebrate their 14th edition and have been part of the highest category of world cycling since their inception.

Grand Prix Cycliste de Québec: Course

Friday’s race takes place entirely on an urban circuit in the city of Québec, which has been slightly modified this year. The circuit measures 12 km and must be completed 18 times, for a total of 219 km and 2,700 meters of accumulated elevation gain.

Grand Prix Cycliste de Montréal: Course

On Sunday, it will be Montréal’s turn, on a 12.3 km circuit to be ridden 17 times, totaling 213 km and 3,800 meters of elevation gain.

Favorites

Both races usually feature practically the same start list. Tadej Pogačar (1200) makes his return in Canada and immediately stands out as the big favorite in both races, although Friday’s course suits him less than the tougher Sunday event.

Other notable riders include Wout Van Aert (1200), Biniam Girmay (1000), Oscar Onley (1000), Mattias Skjelmose (800), Brandon McNulty (800), Florian Lipowitz (1000), Arnaud De Lie (800), Corbin Strong (600), Jonas Abrahamsen (600), Simon Yates (800), Adam Yates (800), Tim Wellens (600), Dorian Godon (600), Roger Adrià (400), Julian Alaphilippe (600) and Michael Matthews (400), who already knows what it means to win in Canada, having triumphed three times in Québec (2018, 2019, 2024) and once in Montréal (2018).
