The first Tour de Romandie Féminin, the last WWT race
The first Tour de Romandie Féminin in history takes place in 2022, the year in which the men's Tour de Romandie celebrated its 75th anniversary: as the saying goes, better late than never. On the other hand, it should be noted that the race premiere starts directly as an event of the highest category of women’s world cycling, the Women's WorldTour, which will precisely close up with this new Swiss race. The best cyclists in the world face each other in one last battle before the well-deserved vacation.
Route
This first edition of the Tour de Romandie Féminin is made up of three stages with very varied profiles. The first day presents a mid-mountain profile with more than 2,000 meters of climbing, although the final part is flat and may lead to regrouping before the end in Lausanne. The second stage is the queen stage of the race and will decide the winner of the general classification, since it presents a high mountain profile with two important climbs: Suen (13.8 km at 6.7%) and Thyon 2000 (17.3 km at 6.6%), where the finish line is located. Finally, the third and final day seems the best option for a sprint on the streets of Geneva, although it is not completely flat either and there may be surprises.
Favorites
Given the profile of the second stage, the winner of the general classification must necessarily be a good climber. Annemiek Van Vleuten (1200) starts once again as the big favorite after a year in which she has proven a thousand times to be the strongest when the road goes up. Cecile Uttrup Ludwig (1000), Juliette Labous (1000), Demi Vollering (1000), Marta Cavalli (1000), Mavi García (800), Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio (800), Evita Muzic (600) or Liane Lippert (1000) are other candidates for top 10 positions.
