The fourth European champion

The women's road race will be the race that will put the final point to the Munich 2022 European Cycling Championships. These days, we have seen Fabio Jakobsen (800) win the men's road race, Marlen Reusser (800) win the women's time trial, and Stefan Bisseger (600) the men's time trial, which leaves us with only one starred jersey to be distributed: Who will be the new European women road champion?

Route

Like last weekend's men's race, this is a route for sprinters, with 127 km and 744 meters of accumulated positive slope, all of them concentrated in the undulating initial part. From the halfway point of the race, however, the terrain descends until entering the local circuit in the streets of Munich, 13 km-long and completely flat, which the cyclists will have to cover for two complete laps.

Favorites

Italy presents a very strong team around the world champion Elisa Balsamo (1200): Marta Bastianelli (800), Maria Giulia Confalonieri (600), Elena Cechini (400), Barbara Guarischi (400) and Rachele Barbieri (400) would be the main asset in almost any other team, but they seem destined to work for Balsamo.

The other big favorite is the Dutch Lorena Wiebes (1200), also with a strong team at her service that includes the current European champion Ellen van Dijk (800), Flooritje Mackaij (600), Riejanne Markus (600) and Charlotte Kool (400).

The Dane Emma Norsgaard (1000), the French Clara Copponi (600), the Norwegian Susanne Andersen (400), the Czech Tereza Neumanová (200), the Spanish Sandra Alonso (200) or the Polish Marta Lach (400) can also go for a good position, but they don't seem to have the top speed of Wiebes and Balsamo. For their part, the Swiss Marlen Reusser (800) and Elise Chabbey (1000) will have to go on the attack if they want to surprise the sprinters.

Finally, we want to especially mention the German Lisa Brennauer (800), who has announced that this will be her last race as a professional cyclist. Good luck in the future, Lisa!
