The season ends with a spring classic

The 2021 season has been exciting, but as they say, all good things must come to an end. Curiously, a typical spring event will be the last race of the year: the UCI Miron Women's WorldTour Ronde van Drenthe, which had its 2021 edition postponed from March to October due to the global pandemic, will have the honor of putting an end to the Women’s WorldTour, the last of the 4 annual competitions that take place in Cycling Fantasy. Thus, both the 10 WWT laurels and the Women's Cobblestones combined trophies will be decided in this beautiful Dutch race.

The race

The women's Ronde Van Drenthe was held for the first time in 2007, and has since established as one of the toughest events of the season, especially due to its long mileage of 157 kilometers. From the start in Assen till the finish line in Hoogeveen, the route includes 10 cobbled sectors and climbs up to 4 times the VAM-berg (0,5 km at 4,2%), the famous hill built on trash that provides character to the race.

Favorites

It looks like 2019 winner Marta Bastianelli (800) will finally not be on the start list, so local Team SD Worx riders Amy Pieters (1000), Chantal Blaak (600) and Demi Vollering (1000) stand out as top favorites. The also Dutch Ellen Van Dijk (600) and Lorena Wiebes (1200), the Belgian Lotte Kopecky (1000), the Australian Sarah Roy (600), the American Kristen Faulkner (400) or the British sisters Hannah Barnes (400) and Alice Barnes (600) are also important candidates for victory.
