The sprinters close out the year in Germany

The 2022 season is coming to an end and cyclists face their last races before the winter break. For sprinters, the ideal ending is the Sparkassen Münsterland Giro, as it is one of the races that best suits them throughout the season. In the 15 editions of the german race so far, we have seen some of the top sprinters of the decade win on the streets of Münster: André Greipel in 2008 and in 2014, Marcel Kittel in 2011 and in 2012, John Degenkolb (400) in 2016, Sam Bennet (800) in 2017, Maximilian Walscheid (400) in 2018, Álvaro Hodeg (200) in 2019 and Mark Cavendish (800) in 2021 are some of the sprinters who have won this race.

Route

The Sparkassen Münsterland Giro 2022 presents one of the flattest race profiles of the season, with only 787 meters of positive slope on the 208 kilometers route. Last year, some short climbs in the second half of the route and the rain led to a win from the breakaway, but for the 2022 edition the organizers have suppressed the elevations to ensure a sprint finish. In addition, the weather forecast points to no rain, so anything other than a bunch sprint would be a big surprise.

Favorites

Sam Bennet (800), Fabio Jakobsen (800), Pascal Ackermann (800), Caleb Ewan (800), Olav Kooij (600), Dylan Groenewegen (600), Maximilian Walscheid (400) and Jordi Meeus (400) are some of the best sprinters in the world, so they start as the main candidates for victory.
