The Swiss mountains, last pre-Tour test

The Tour de Suisse is the last WorldTour race before the Tour de France, and traditionally many riders use it to test their condition against their rivals. However, as also happened at the Critérium du Dauphiné, the two great TdF candidates, the Slovenians Tadej Pogačar (1200) and Primoz Roglič (1200), are missing, so many riders can contest the GC.

Route

Two time trials, a flat stage with some traps, two medium mountain stages and three high mountain stages make up a demanding route with no terrain to hide: the shape of the riders will be clear and will let us focus on cyclists who want to be protagonists in the Tour, even when they are not the main candidates for the GC.

Favorites

The Ineos Grenadiers riders Adam Yates (1000) and Richard Carapaz (1000) seem to be the strongest for the mountain stages, but in one-week races, riders like Julian Alaphilippe (1200), Maximilian Schachmann (1000) or Jakob Fuglsang (1000) can hold on for GC. Marc Soler (600) and Esteban Chaves (400) can also be in the mix for the general classification, and we’ll see Tom Dumoulin (400)’s form, as he is reappearing from the competition break he decided to take back in January.

For the ITT, the main specialists on the start list are Stefan Bisseger (400), Stefan Küng (600), Patrick Bevin (400), Søren Kragh Andersen (600) or Marc Hirschi (600). For fast arrivals, Michael Matthews (1000) and Magnus Cort Nielsen (400) seem the favorites on paper along with the genius Mathieu Van Der Poel (800), who tends to shine in every race he disputes.
