The UWT ends in Lombardy

The last stop of the men's UCI WorldTour 2021 will be Il Lombardia, the fifth monument of the year. Also known as “the classic of the falling leaves”, Il Lombardia is the most prestigious fall classic and the steepest day race of the season, making it a natural end-of-season goal for climbers and a magnificent final party for fans.

Route

The traditional route from Bergamo to Como has been reversed on this occasion, which this year presents a new route of 239 kilometers from Como to Bergamo. Along the way, cyclists will have to overcome 6 climbs that add up to 4659 vertical meters.

The most iconic climb of the race, Madona de Ghisallo (8.8 km at 3.9%), is climbed in a testimonial way at the beginning of the race, while the decisive attacks are expected in the last 60 kilometers, where cyclists will have to overcome Zambla Alta (9.8 to 3.3%) and the Passo di Ganda (9.3 km to 7.1%). Finally, just 3 km from the finish line cyclist will find Colle Aperto (1.3 km at 7%), where attacks are expected if the race is not yet decided.

Favorites

The cast of climbers on the start list is spectacular and includes Tour de France winner Tadej Pogačar (1200), Vuelta ciclista a España winner Primož Roglič (1200) and world champion Julian Alalphilippe (1000). Other favorites are João Almeida (1200), Remco Evenepoel (1200), Alexandr Vlasov (1200), Alejandro Valverde (1000), Adam Yates (1000), Michael Woods (800), David Gaudu (800) and Daniel Martin (800). In a third level, Romain Bardet (600), Nairo Quintana (600), Rigoberto Urán (600), Vincenzo Nibali (600) or Thibaut Pinot (400) can also have their chances.
