The women's peloton continues in Spain
After an exciting racing week provided by the first La Vuelta Femenina in history, the women's peloton continues to compete in Spain in the coming days. Tomorrow, Wednesday, the Navarra Women's Elite Classic will take place, making its debuts in the ProSeries, and from Friday until Sunday, it will be the turn of the second Itzulia Women, a WorldTour event.
Routes
Both the Navarra Women's Elite Classic and the three stages that compose the Itzulia Women present medium mountain profiles. The Navarra Women's Elite Classic takes place in a hilly territory around Pamplona that includes 9 climbs or muros, while the three Itzulia Women’s stages also do not present opportunities for sprinters. On the first day, the climb to Urkaregi (4.9 km at 6.1%), which is situated 9 km from the finish line, will select the cyclists who will compete for the win. The end of the second day also includes the climb to Lezama (0.5 km at 7.9%) before the final 5-kilometer descent, while the last day takes place around San Sebastian and includes the most characteristic climbs of the Donostia San Sebastian Klasikoa, Jaizkibel (7.3 km at 5.9%) and the muro from Murgil up to Mendizorrotz (3.9 km at 7.7%).
Favorites
With less than 24 hours to go before the Navarra Women's Elite Classic, the organization has not yet published the start list, but it is likely that many of the participants will be the same cyclists who will take part in the Itzulia.
The two main favorites to take the Itzulia Women are Demi Vollering (1200) and Annemiek Van Vleuten (1200), but the start list also includes other candidates such as Liane Lippert (1000), Katarzyna Niewiadoma (1000), Niamh Fisher-Black (800), Evita Muzic (800), Soraya Paladin (600), and Ricarda Bauernfield (200).
