Trofeo Serra de Tramuntana
Lennert Van Eetvelt dominates the Trofeo Serra de Tramuntana
In today's thrilling stage of the Trofeo Serra de Tramuntana, part of the Challenge Mallorca, Lennert Van Eetvelt of Team Lotto Dstny showcased his skill and endurance, securing an impressive victory. Surpassing high-caliber competitors, 22-year-old Van Eetvelt triumphed in an exciting final sprint, leaving behind Aleksandr Vlasov of BORA-hansgrohe and Brandon McNulty of UAE Team Emirates.
The 153.8 km race, which started in Selva and ended in Lluc, was characterized by a fierce battle on the final climbs. The Col de Sóller played a crucial role in breaking up an eight-rider breakaway, while the long ascent to the Coll de Puig Major was decisive in forming the group of favorites. Teams like EF Education, Bora, and Soudal played prominent roles, with Iván Romeo (7th) and Igor Arrieta (9th) being the best Spanish riders in a fiercely contested race from the start.
Van Eetvelt's victory is particularly significant as it marks his first win in 2024 and represents redemption after his provisional suspension for doping in 2023 and subsequent acquittal.
