UK hosts its Women's Tour
The Women's Tour reaches its eighth edition this year, well-established as the most prestigious women's race in the United Kingdom. In the 7 editions that have been disputed, some of the best cyclists of the decade have managed to take the general classification: Marianne Vos (1200) in 2014, Lisa Brennauer (1000) in 2015, Elizabeth Deignan (1000) twice, in 2016 and 2019, Katarzyna Niewiadoma (1000) in 2017, Coryn Rivera (800) in 2018, and Demi Vollering (1200) in 2021 are the members of this prestigious list of winners.
Route
The 2022 Women's Tour presents a 6-stage route, of which 5 possibly end in some kind of sprint. Unlike last year's edition, on this occasion the race does not include an individual time trial, so the only stage that is out of the ideal script for sprinters is the fifth, ending at the top of Black Mountain (5.2 km at 5.9%), which will undoubtedly be decisive for the GC. In the words of the organizers, it is “the highest ever summit finish” in the history of the race.
Favorites
So, the main candidates for the general classification are climbers like Elisa Longo Borghini (1200), Katarzyna Niewiadoma (1000), Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio (1000) or Kristen Faulkner (600). However, as far as Cycling Fantasy is concerned, it can be interesting to load our team of sprinters, since many points will be distributed on the flat stages. Among the fast women, Lorena Wiebes (1000) is the top favorite to win several stages.Other sprinters in the list are Alison Jackson (800), Alice Barnes (600), Chloe Hosking (600), Clara Copponi (600) , Sofia Bertizzolo (800), Coryn Rivera (800), Susanne Andersen (400) or Alexandra Manly (200), who was very strong last week in the Internationale LOTTO Thüringen Ladies Tour, where she won 4 stages and the general classification.
Rouleurs like Grace Brown (800), Chantal Blaak (800), Marlen Reusser (800), Anna Henderson (400) or Ellen Van Dijk (800) will have to attack at some point if they want a stage win. Stages 3 and 4 seem best suited to it.
