Vårgårda marks the start of Nordic racing

As every year, August brings the Scandinavian races, both in the female and male categories. For women, the appointments are the Women's WorldTour events Postnord Vårgårda WestSweden and Tour of Scandinavia - Battle of the North. For men, on the other hand, we are talking about the Arctic Race of Norway and the Postnord Danmark Rundt - Tour of Denmark, both stage races integrated into the ProSeries. Normally the Tour of Norway is also added to the calendar on these dates, but the 2022 edition was held in May, when Remco Evenepoel (1200) took the win.

Route

The Postnord Vårgårda WestSweden RR starts and ends in the same place, in the Swedish town of Vårgårda. First, cyclists will have to cover a long lap of 37.7 kilometers that includes 3 gravel sectors of 3.5 km, 2.3 km and 2.7 km. Then, once this long lap is completed, the route is completed with 8 laps of the 11 km local circuit, which includes the small climb of Hängrunga (0.6 km at 5.6%).

Favorites

The climb should not be a problem for fast women, so we will most likely see a sprint finish, where Lorena Wiebes (1200) and Marianne Vos (1000) are the two big favorites. For its part, the powerful SD Worx team will try to avoid a bunch finale using their numerical superiority to harden the race. With riders such as Marlen Reusser (800), Demi Vollering (1200), Chantal Blaak (800) and Cristine Majerus (600), anything is possible.
