Race analysis, favourites, and predictions for Giro d'Italia 2020

In this special 2020 because of the global pandemic, many races have had their dates and routes changed. This is the case of the Giro d'Italia, which will be held in October, with the risk of snow that this entails in the highest ports. In addition, the low temperatures will undoubtedly take their toll on riders, increasing wear and tear and rewarding the toughest men.

Regarding the route, the most notable are the 3 individual time trials in stages 1, 14 and 21, as well as the 6 high mountain stages, all with top mountain finish. A spectacular layout that consolidates the Giro as the three-week race with the most attractive route for regular cycling fans. If this wasn’t enough, the last ITT of the Giro, on October 25, will coincide with Paris-Roubaix and the Tourmalet stage in la Vuelta a España, in what has already been considered by many as the world cycling day.

Among the favorites to the general classification stand out Geraint Thomas (1000), Simon Yates (1000), Wilco Kelderman (800), Steven Kruijwijk (800), Rafal Majka (1000), Vincenzo Nibali (800), Jakob Fuglsang (1000), Alexander Vlasov (200) and Miguel Angel López (1200).

For sprints, several sprinters will compete for the few chances provided for them on the parcours, but without a doubt the fight for the regularity ciclamino jersey will be a goal for men such as Peter Sagan (1200), Michael Matthews (1000) or Arnaud Demare (800). Other top sprinters on the startlist are Fernando Gaviria (800), Caleb Ewan (1200) and Elia Viviani (1200).
