Race analysis, favourites, and predictions for Petronas Le Tour de Langkawi 2025

The Petronas Le Tour de Langkawi is part of the UCI ProSeries, the second tier of world cycling, and has established itself as one of the most prestigious races in Asia. First held in 1996, the Malaysian race will celebrate its 29th edition in 2025, placing it among the longest-running and most iconic competitions on the Asian calendar.

Route

The race consists of 8 stages, from Sunday to Sunday, with 5 clear opportunities for sprinters. Stage 3 includes the climb to Puncak Titiwangsa (18.2 km at 4.1%), which could be selective, but as it crests more than 130 km from the finish, it is likely to also end in a sprint, perhaps a reduced one. The general classification will most likely be decided in Stage 5, which features the only summit finish of the race at Fraser’s Hill (27.7 km at 3.7%). The week closes with a hilly finish in Kuala Lumpur, where there could still be GC movements if the classification has not yet been fully settled.

Favorites

The abundance of sprint finishes has attracted several important sprinters such as Alexander Kristoff (600), Arvid De Klein (400), Enrico Zanoncello (400), Matteo Malucelli (200), Jason Tesson (200), Erlend Blikra (200), Manuel Peñalver (200), Aaron Gate (200), and Dušan Rajović (200).

For the general classification, climbers like Anders Halland Johannessen (200), Odd Christian Eiking (200), Yannis Voisard (200), José Manuel Díaz Gallego (200), Guillermo Juan Martínez (200), and Adrien Maire (200) stand out among the provisional start list.
