Race analysis, favourites, and predictions for Tour de Pologne 2022

After an exciting Tour de France and before a Vuelta Ciclista a España that promises a high level starting list, the UCI WorldTour visits Poland for the Tour de Pologne. The race, which was held for the first time in 1928 as an amateur event, increased in level until 2005, the year in which it reached the highest category of world cycling. Today, in 2022, the Tour de Pologne is fully consolidated as a WorldTour event, and will feature the participation of all the WorldTeam category teams (18).

Route

Of the 7 stages that make up the route of this edition of the Tour de Pologne, 3 are flat and will probably end in a bunch sprint (stages 1, 2 and 7). With no high mountain stages, the general classification will be decided in the three hilly stages (stages 3, 4 and 5) and in the time trial on the sixth day.

Favorites

Richard Carapaz (1200), Pello Bilbao (1000), Diego Ulissi (800) Sergio Higuita (800) and Richie Porte (600) are a priori the main candidates for the general classification, although the few mountains that the route includes invites to think that good time trialists like Mike Teunissen (400), Michal Kwiatkowski (400), Remi Cavagna (400) or Jan Tratnik (400) can also target it.

In the battle for the sprints, Arnaud Demare (1200), Mark Cavendish (1000), Sam Bennett (1000), Pascal Ackermann (800), Phil Bauhaus (600), Biniam Girmay (600) and Olav Kooij (600) are the fastest men on paper.
