Race analysis, favourites, and predictions for Tour of Slovenia 2023

Since the Tour of Slovenia became part of the ProSeries in 2021, the local champion Tadej Pogačar (1200) has been using the home race as the last preparation for the Tour de France. However, this time Pogačar will not be present at the starting line. After fracturing his scaphoid bone in Liège-Bastogne-Liège, he is still in the final stages of recovery and will attend a training camp with his team prior to the Tour. Therefore, without the dominant force of the last two editions of the race, the Tour of Slovenia will be more open than ever.

Route

The race consists of 5 stages, with 4 of them classified as flat by the organizers. The stage that will decide the general classification will undoubtedly be the fourth, as it is the only opportunity for climbers throughout the race. This stage includes two ascents of Kolovrat (10.1 km at 8.9%) and has a total elevation gain of 3623 meters.

Favorites

Slovenians Matej Mohorič (800) and Domen Novak (200), Italians Diego Ulissi (800), Davide Bais (200), Lorenzo Fortunato (200), Filippo Zana (200), and Edorado Zambanini (200), Norwegian Krsitian Aasvold (200), and Germans Ben Zwiehoff (200) and Paul Double (200) are among the main contenders for the general classification.

For the sprints, Phil Bauhaus (800), Dylan Groenewegen (600), Juan Sebastián Molano (600), Stanislav Aniolkowski (400), and Matteo Moschetti (200) are the most famous sprinters listed for the race.
