The department store chain C&A was the sponsor of the last team where Eddy Merckx rode, although he barely competed with the team, as "The Cannibal" announced his retirement on May 18, 1978, following his doctors' recommendation.
C&A was the successor to Fiat and the legendary Molteni, where Merckx spent almost his entire career.
