Bernard Hinault was the last great French champion. Winner of five editions of the Tour de France, Hinault was the last Frenchman to win the Tour in 1985. Additionally, Hinault also won two editions of the Vuelta a España and three of the Giro d'Italia. Following a common tradition in the jerseys of the French national champion, Hinault's jersey did not bear any team advertising.
