Raymond Poulidor was one of the most beloved cyclists of the 1960s and 1970s. Poulidor garnered sympathies for being the eternal second in the Tour de France, where he never wore the yellow jersey but achieved 3 second places and 7 stage victories. On the other hand, Poulidor did manage to win a Vuelta a España (1964), a Milano-Sanremo (1961), and the French national championship in 1961. He was the grandfather of Mathieu Van Der Poel.
