In 1997, the dissolution of the Carrera team brings with it the appearance of two new teams in the international peloton: on the one hand the sportswear brand Asics, which welcomes director Davide Boifava and five riders, including Chiappucci and Zaina, and on the other, Mercatone Uno, with Marco Pantani as team leader. With Marcatone Uno Pantani would achieve overall victories in Tour and Giro.
