The professional team was born in 1980 with the sponsorship of the Navarran aluminum company INASA (Industria Navarra del Aluminio, SA), which a year earlier had entered the world of cycling by sponsoring a team of amateurs under the direction of José Miguel Echavarri, alma mater of this team. Its main team leader was Pedro Delgado, who achieved the greatest successes of the team, with his victories in the 1988 Tour de France and the 1989 Vuelta a España. In the 90s it would become the Banesto team, and after several changes of sponsor, the team is still active under the sponsorship of Movistar.
