Alejandro Valverde was the Spanish national champion on three occasions, in 2008, 2015, and 2019. Known as "Bala" (Bullet), he was a professional cyclist for 21 seasons and a highly versatile rider, excelling as a climber with a strong sprint. He won the overall classification of the Vuelta a España in 2009 and claimed stage victories in 9 editions of the race. Valverde also achieved other notable successes, including 4 stage wins in the Tour de France, 4 victories in Liège-Bastogne-Liège, 5 wins in La Flèche Wallonne, and the 2018 UCI Road World Championships.
